Heim regrets that the number of KLM members is falling nationwide. A major European meeting in Lübeck in 2018 should give a boost. Fritz Kolkmann appreciates having an overview everywhere. He believes the KLM groups will be around for a long time, because: “Here you can always talk at eye level.”

A small niche is growing: Holidays without children in the area are being booked more and more often. The desire for relaxation without screaming and without ass bombs by the pool is increasing – and is now also socially accepted.

“This hotel is not suitable for children” is sometimes stated in the travel catalog or the Internet. Translated means: “We don’t want any children here.” But the hotel owner doesn’t want to write it like that – unnecessarily. Vacation offers that exclude children are by no means as politically incorrect as they were a few years ago. On the contrary: the supply and demand for holidays without shouting while eating and without making noise every time you jump into the pool have exploded in recent years.

Is “adults only” hostile to children?

“Because the market in this segment is growing very fast, this discussion that existed a few years ago has completely disappeared,” says Patrick Hogrefe, Head of Product Management “Sun and Beach” at Tui. “Without children” is still not a search filter on the major German internet booking portals, regrets Weiss. “I really have to dig through all the hotel descriptions in the online catalogs to find out whether there are children there or not.”

In the past, couples with double earners were the typical target group for holidays without children, says Weiss. “In the meantime, this has reached the normal citizen.” A large target group – alongside other parents – are also educators: “They don’t all want to spend 365 days a year with children.”
